Taipei, April 22, 2024—Wiwynn (6669), driven by its vision of "Unleash the Power of Digitalization, Ignite the Innovation of Sustainability," is dedicated to advancing data center businesses while actively engaging in sustainable environmental and social development.

Today, on the Earth Day, Wiwynn proudly announces its sponsorship of the Penghu (澎湖) Hangwan (杭灣) Coastal Afforestation and Coral Restoration Project, a collaborative endeavor led by the Penghu County Government and the Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation (TOAF). Dr. Sunlai Chang, President and CEO of Wiwynn, also leads the company’s team in actively participating in tree planting and coral restoration activities. The project aims to plant 10,000 tree seedlings and restore 8,000 corals in the Penghu Hangwan region.

The Penghu Hangwan afforestation project employs the innovative "water-storing tree planter" technology to overcome the challenging growth conditions posed by Penghu's island environment, including salt spray, basalt geology, and robust northeasterly monsoons. This innovative approach significantly boosts the survival rate of tree seedlings, surpassing 80%. Furthermore, it is estimated the project annually sequesters approximately 4.64 metric tons of biological carbon.

Notably, the Hangwan afforestation site serves a dual purpose: not only does it safeguard the soil and land, but it also functions as a fish protection forest for the coral restoration area. By providing diverse tree species and abundant organic matter conducive to fish habitats, this integrated strategy creates a thriving environment for marine life. This cohesive approach seamlessly intertwines afforestation efforts with coral restoration, enriching biodiversity across terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

Since its launch in 2021, Wiwynn's “Ocean Hugs” program has steadily advanced, engaging in afforestation initiatives both in Taiwan and at overseas factory sites. By 2023, Wiwynn had planted over 24,000 trees along the Taiwanese coast and in upstream areas. Today, through its partnership with the Penghu County Government and the TOAF, Wiwynn is poised to take its environmental efforts to the next level. Together, they will embark on the planting of a further 10,000 tree seedlings and the restoration of 8,000 corals.

“As pioneers in cloud services and the global data center supply chain, we understand that the long-term success of company operations hinges on championing societal and environmental causes,” emphasized Dr. Sunlai Chang, President and CEO of Wiwynn. “We are thrilled to participate in the Penghu Hangwan Coastal Afforestation and Coral Restoration Project. Through our efforts, we aim to safeguard coastlines, facilitate natural carbon sequestration, and enrich biodiversity for sustainable environmental development.”

Kuang-fu Chen, the County Mayor of Penghu said: "Marine resources are a crucial asset for Penghu County. This project holds significant meaning for the conservation and sustainable development of Penghu's ecology. We greatly appreciate Wiwynn's support and participation. Together, we are planting from land to sea, contributing to the ocean we rely on, and working hand in hand to build and preserve the beloved home we cherish.”

Mao Rong Su , CEO of the TOAF stated "We are grateful for Wiwynn's enthusiastic participation and the strong backing of the Penghu County Government. Together, through the actions of afforestation using the water-storing tree planter and coral restoration, we can enhance the vitality of Penghu's island and reef ecosystems, from land to sea, and establish a new paradigm for environmental restoration."
